Premier League - Paper Round: Diouf under fire

The Blackburn striker has denied he hurled racist abuse at an Everton ballboy and is now attempting to turn the tables by claiming he was himself subjected to racial taunts, with bananas 'thrown at him' during the course of Sunday's game at Goodison Park.

But The Sun, for one, isn't convinced, running the headline 'Pull the other one'.

Diouf says he does not want "to let this matter rest", but he may have to, as there appears to be little evidence of wrong doing on behalf of Everton fans.

The Daily Mail has gone as far as printing a statement from their Sports Picture Editor, in which he claims none of the 1,600 photos of the game, nor any others from several other photo agencies, show a single banana being thrown.

Flavour of the month, Diouf is not.

Unfortunately, there are yet more racism claims after last night's football, with Blackpool manager Ian Holloway saying Jason Euell was subjected to taunts from the Stoke crowd during their Carling Cup game. (The Guardian)

Back to another of the weekend's talking points - the Manchester derby. Gary Neville may have been slapped with a warning by the FA for his celebratory starfishing at Old Trafford, but Harry Redknapp was suitably impressed and wants some of his Tottenham players to show the same level of passion. (Daily Express)

Ben Foster's poor performance in that game could see him consigned to the substitutes' bench for the upcoming game against Stoke. Tomasz Kuszczak will play in goal in tonight's Carling Cup clash with Wolves, and if he has a decent game, he will stay there. (The Sun)

Meanwhile, in the North East, Kevin Keegan has snubbed £4 million of compensation after Mike Ashley attempted to settle the bitter legal battle raging between the former Newcastle boss and his club (The Sun). But the Daily Star reckons Keegan is closing in on an £8m settlement.

Matt Le Tissier will not face criminal charges over the betting scam in which he was involved in 1995. The former Southampton ace admitted he tried to win £10,000 by betting on the time of the first throw of a game against Wimbledon, only to fail in his efforts to get the ball out of play in time. (Daily Mail)

And of course, Sol Campbell has walked out on Notts County after playing just once for the League Two side. (Daily Mail, The Sun)
