New Zealand has held its first ever laptop battle, begging the question what is a laptop battle? Usually when you think about battles, you think of things like dance battles, which in turn have you thinking about crap dance-off movies like You Got Served, or walk-offs Zoolander style.If not that, you may associate battles with hip-hop and probably think of the arguably once-cool Eminem in 8-Mile.

Laptop battles include a laptop, a soundcard and some kind of midi-controller, but all sorts of things can make an appearance.

Competitors have three minutes to impress three cool looking judges. Some of their material is recorded already and some of it done on the fly.

Auckland's first laptop battle drew in battlers from as far away Christchurch, thanks to crowd favourite, Ed Muzik.

Much like a rock band destroying their guitars, sometimes the laptops do not fare too well either.

The ultimate winner on the night was PP Flow. The judges were impressed with his drilling technique - a finale that was the ultimate act of rock n roll stardom.
