German football is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance after the national side reached the semi-finals of the World Cup with a squad based entirely in the Bundesliga.

And with Bayern Munich having reached last season's final of the Champions League, the Bundesliga appears once again to be a force to be reckoned with.

"Perhaps in sporting terms, the Bundesliga is the second best league in Europe, behind the Premier League," McClaren said in Welt am Sonntag.

"Last year it was the most profitable league in the world.The development potential is huge."

McClaren takes charge of his new side for the first time in the league with an opening day clash against Bayern on August 20 as he hopes to lead the Wolves into Europe after a disappointing season last time out.

"Getting into Europe is much more important than winning titles, "said the former England coach.

"The sporting prestige and the money you can earn there are the basis for everything else."
