Few changes on a sleepy Tuesday with very little significant news emanating from the 32 contenders.
HOW IT WORKS We conducted a poll of Eurosport-Yahoo! writers, asking them to rank each team based on their expected performance if the World Cup were to start tomorrow. We then took an average mark from the poll results to create this list. The tournament draw is not taken into account - it is an assessment of performance level, not likelihood of success. We will publish revised rankings every day until the end of the World Cup, with countries moving up and down based on friendly results, injuries, scandals and other factors. WORLD CUP POWER RANKINGS 1 (1) - Spain 2 (2) - Brazil 3 (3) - Argentina 4 (4) - Netherlands 5 (5) - Italy 6 (6) - Portugal 7 (7) - England 8 (9) - Germany - The shock has turned to anger following Michael Ballack's injury. Kevin Prince Boateng would be well advised to stay away. 9 (8) - France - Injury worries at the back, with William Gallas still struggling with a thigh strain and fellow defender Marc Planus also crocked. 10 (10) - Ivory Coast 11 (11) - USA 12 (12) - Mexico 13 (13) - Ghana 14 (14) - Serbia 15 (15) - Cameroon 16 (17) - Chile - Gonzala Jara came through 45 minutes of friendly action, but five midfielders were axed as Marcelo Bielsa whittled down his squad. 17 (16) - Australia 18 (18) - Paraguay 19 (19) - South Africa 20 (20) - Uruguay 21 (21) - South Korea 22 (22) - Denmark 23 (23) - Greece 24 (25) - Slovenia 25 (27) - Nigeria - The Super Eagles have booked a friendly against Colombia at Upton Park on May 30 as things finally start to come together. 26 (24) - Switzerland - Veteran full-back Christoph Spycher has pulled out of the tournament with a knee injury, saying his international career is probably over. 27 (26) - Japan 28 (28) - Slovakia 29 (29) - North Korea 30 (30) - Algeria 31 (31) - Honduras 32 (32) - New Zealand Eurosport |
